Accelerating
Autonomous Mobility
in Abu Dhabi
with HOLON shuttles

BENTELER Mobility, a global leader in Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) solutions for autonomous vehicles, and the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) Abu Dhabi, the legislative and regulatory authority for autonomous mobility in the Emirate, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding at DRIFTx in Abu Dhabi to accelerate the deployment of autonomous mobility solutions. The collaboration aims to develop a scalable framework for the large-scale introduction of autonomous shuttles in Abu Dhabi.

In their collaboration, both parties are pursuing a holistic approach: At the heart of the collaboration lies a comprehensive assessment of Abu Dhabi’s mobility needs. This analysis will serve as the basis for data-driven planning and decision-making processes and will help prepare the targeted introduction of autonomous vehicles. Another key focus is the development of a detailed implementation framework for the planned pilot project featuring HOLON’s autonomous shuttles.

The agreement aligns with Abu Dhabi’s strategic goal to make at least 25% of all mobility modes — land, marine, and urban air — autonomous by 2040. It also supports the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy and underscores the commitment to technological innovation and sustainable urban development.

Tobias Liebelt, CEO of BENTELER Mobility: “With the Integrated Transport Centre Abu Dhabi, we are collaborating to realize the next generation of autonomous mobility in the region. Together, we are laying the groundwork for deploying intelligent vehicle fleets that combine sustainability, efficiency, and technological excellence.”

Dr. Sven Herzig, CSO of HOLON: “This strategic collaboration enables us to establish our autonomous vehicles in a forward-looking market. Together with ITC, we will actively shape the future of urban mobility.”

As part of the collaboration, the homologation and certification of HOLON’s vehicles will be carried out in accordance with ITC’s regulatory requirements and local standards. The goal is to authorize the vehicles for public use in Abu Dhabi and to help shape the technical standards for autonomous mobility in the region. Local companies and stakeholders will be actively involved in building a sustainable and future-ready mobility ecosystem.

In the future, autonomous shuttles such as the HOLON urban shall be implemented as a full-service solution.

For this purpose, BENTELER Mobility is collaborating with Emirates Global Motor Electric (EGME), a leading UAE-based sustainable mobility provider and subsidiary of the Al Fahim Group. EGME will be the operator for autonomous and electric vehicle fleets in the UAE. This will include operations, maintenance, and fleet management of the autonomous vehicles, ensuring high availability and operational efficiency.
